Serving Time – Incarceration of both sides –

“They kept me in a cage for too long because now every room I am standing in is just another cell.” – Raegan Butcher, Rusty String Quartet

You were my lover and a thug too
We got together, I quickly knew
Days went by and nights we do
Your criminal mentality showed straight through
Sirens coming now, the boys in blue
This was it, I’d serve time with you
Doors clicking on the inside and you knew
mind clicking on the outs, I’m serving time with you
You were spinning, calls not going through
I was spinning, serving time with you
Letters, so many letters, all holding a clue
That my love, I’m serving time with you.
Soon the days will be through
Last days of serving time with you
Freedom it calls, everything new
I’ll have to do it again, serving time with you

Recluse –

“A certain recluse, I know not who, once said that no bonds attached him to this life, and the only thing he would regret leaving was the sky” –  Kenko Yoshida

Find this one, lock this one, cold, my heart runs around,
flicking off switches
Hurry be swift
Quick slam the door, locking the windows,
hoping you don’t hear me
Hurry be swift
No I won’t come out, I’m staying in, quit calling me.
So many switches,
Hurry be swift
Disconnect, follow these impulses, block the thoughts,
they lead me out
Hurry be swift
Damn the lights, I forgot, turning off the lights,
closing the blinds, pull the phone
Hurry be swift
There must never be another, never again, I must hide,
protecting the remains,
Hurry be swift
Finally dark, all alone, no one knowing where I’ve gone,
I’m the recluse, go away
Hurry be swift

Pleasure Of Pain – An addict’s suffering

“Addictions that plague our friends, family, and neighbors bring pain, both for the user and those who try in vain to love them in spite of the torturous twists and turns of their habit. To the addict: There are no easy answers, don’t stop trying, get back up and keep on fighting.” – Healey’s First Law Of Holes: When in one, stop digging. ― Denis Healey

Alone again in a cheap hotel room
The small TV flickering
The nasty images tempting
Putting my fate in the Pleasure of Pain

Been everywhere, feeling nothing
Trying to recover, going nowhere
On the sticky carpet falling
Putting my fate in the Pleasure of Pain

Fears from everywhere I hear
Muffled screams from the room next door
The dirty mirror reflecting
Putting my fate in the Pleasure of Pain

It’s all gone, money is low
One more call, one more go
The old a/c is struggling
Putting my fate in the Pleasure of Pain

Collapse, need to get out
Twist and turn from the pain
The phone light is blinking
Putting my fate in the Pleasure of Pain

Sounds exploding out of silence
Flinching in paranoid terror
So lonely, no one’s coming
Putting my fate in the Pleasure of Pain

This is fun? (no!) This is exciting? (tears fall)
This is what I live for? (deep sigh)
My future’s a pay by week hotel room (God…help me)
Putting my fate in the Pleasure of Pain
