Flailing Against The Now

“Those who do not move, do not notice their chains.” – Rosa Luxemburg
“She was like a drowning person, flailing, reaching for anything that might save her. Her life was an urgent, desperate struggle to justify her life.” – Jonathan Safran Foer, Everything Is Illuminated

See my desire from afar she calls,

Forever here beside me

Stepping from today I fall

Looking for a Savior to sell

A direction for hope

A breaking of the windy spell

Left with a remnant of a dream

Tossing in my days

Hope in my eyes a gleam

Age you defy my advancing plans

Feeling the limits of days

Ripples of my passing stands

A harried cloak of now pulled close

shutting gaps of chance

This my importunities chose

Thinking

“I think and think and think, I‘ve thought myself out of happiness one million times, but never once into it.” – Jonathan Safran Foer
Weheartit
Starting small, a little fire, a gentlebeginning

Fuel consumed by circumstance

Flames are bright, I think to much.

Pull the sand, a gentle river, contained by nurture

Releasing it runs, events of chance

Rapids form rolling hills, I think to much

Words spoken, few arrows, swiftly flying away

Wounds bleed from peaceful intentions

Broken shafts are faults, I think to much

Drops floating, small crowds, in heated drafts gather

Billowed followings, a dark horizon

Deluge free falling fast, I think to much

I Thought, I Became

“as a man thinks in his heart, so is he” – Proverbs 23:7

I’ve heard the negative, dark words spoken in blind anger
from family, lovers, friends, and enemies.
Now, I can’t get them out of my mind.
They linger like stingers, long after the offender is gone
I feel the effects, no matter how I try
to think that it’s not possible to actually be
what they said.
Self esteem takes the hit, crumpling under the blow.
I take hold of myself and stand again
It’s only what I believe that will affect me.
I will not listen to those heavy things,
weighing me down.
Casting off the weight, throwing it behind me
I can stand, I can be whole
full and strong, standing again
in the face of life’s headwind

I am not what they say, I am what I believe.
