Midwife of Creation

“I’m not ashamed of heroic ambitions. If man and woman can only dance upon this earth for a few countable turns of the sun… let each of us be an Artemis, Odysseus, or Zeus… Aphrodite to the extent of the will of each one.” Roman Payne, Rooftop Soliloquy

“The artist’s job, I think, is to be a conduit for mystery… and sort of midwife that mystery…in such a way that it isn’t damaged in the process, and may even get heightened or refined.” – George Saunders

Artemis – Goddess of Childbirth

Holding my infant of creation’s muse

Enemies of worry outside being used

To slay my desire before it grows

Limiting my dreams and blocking the flow

I’m the midwife to birth the newborns

Stand aside doubt and thoughts forlorn

I cut the cord and new life is freed

No chains of anxiety on those parts of me

Cascades – Metaphors of a new start

“Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. – Margaret Atwood, The Penelopiad

Pour down rushing cascades

Filling the voids in hungry glades

Creation born in the splashing enclave
Swimming in the abundant rains

Pictured for me in the grand scheme
An image of strength for my soul’s need

A river flowing from a source so high
Allowing fresh life, relieving my deep sigh

Frolic in peace, the swirling water alive
I swim with ease, living I no longer cry

Have You Heard? – Nature declaring providence

“Remember the order of life. Sometimes we forget how it was intended to be.”

Have you heard the liquid giant

roar demanding you respect
His presence?

Have you heard the invisible one
run through the land teasing
the trees?

Have you heard the little ones
flitting about the clouds and grasses
singing courtships?

Have heard the massive submariner
deep below the dappled surface
echoing His sounds?

Have you heard the ancient ones
drop His fruit creating food
for the valley floor?

Have heard the sounds of creation
so loudly proclaiming
the existence of one?
