Stinger – Fighting doubt

“The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser men so full of doubts.” – Bertrand Russell
Tickle in my brain, flying around in there
Nettle from the wings, wings without air.
Brother to it’s flight, a needle of doubt
The sting will be sure, no way out.
I flinch from the pain, it pierces my defense
Pushing without mercy, sparing no expense
I feel the poison rush, numbing as it goes
Fiercely it corrupts, putting hope in death throes
I shake myself aware, knowing I won’t let go
To pull this ugly thing out, to stop the ebbing flow
Strength from the deep, I brace once more for pain

Doubt resurrects, it’ll keep coming back again.

Point of No Return

“In everybody’s life there’s a point of no return. And in a very few cases, a point where you can’t go forward anymore. And when we reach that point, all we can do is quietly accept the fact. That’s how we survive.” – Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore

There are moments in my life of wandering, moments when I‘m breaking through the brush of mystery and intrigue in the nurture of existence, to find myself on the very edge of a cliff. A cliff of choice, the point of no return. Many choices, once made, offer no u-turns. My fate is sealed, the dice are rolled, the trigger is pulled. The air is thick with mist, the mist of unknowing. The wind blows up from the chasm of destiny, pulling my hair, pushing me back, forcing me to make a decision. I feel the ground giving way, circumstance will force my hand if I hesitate. Forward progress, by necessity, is a very definite and purposeful choice.  These moments come without warning, catching me in their frenzy and pressure. It’s almost to late. Be prepared my friends, fate comes quickly to demand of you, to smack you with reality, to dazzle you with fantasy, to ask you, what will you do? Choose carefully, once you leap, the ground comes to greet you with a startling quickness.

Utility of Love

We are so obsessed with doing that we have no time and no imagination left for being. As a result, men are valued not for what they are but for what they do or what they have – for their usefulness.” –Thomas Merton

 Utility defines our passions embrace

Only together can we both go far

Industry becomes the nature of us

Survival is our language of love

Laying down sentiment for reality

Struggle unites that which is contrary

Bound by an instinct for air

Two are better than one when drowning,

From these turbid waters we will escape

Prairie Fire – Pressing through the tough times

“As if you were on fire from within.
The moon lives in the lining of your skin.” – Pablo Neruda

Falling down on the floor of my potential

Feeling the weight of my air

Escaping slowing from hope

I press back the fury of slipping dreams

Knowing I can do more than breathe

I grab at the invisible never releasing

Lifting up my head I refuse the loss

I will again ignite my destiny

With the passion of prairie fire

The Life Of A Wave – Earth, Air, Fire, Water interacting

“Move swift as the Wind and closely-formed as the Wood. Attack like the Fire and be still as the Mountain.” – Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Coerced from my sleep

Way, way down deep

Titans of earthen pallor incessantly push another element

Barely appearing in my journey

I can’t be seen clearly

Wild winds whip and angrily push another element

Orange temper far below

Angry kicks not softening the blow

Molten flames melt resistance pushing on another element.

Tired of being treated so

I rise up and with thunderous roar

White water crashing the pushing epitaph of another element
